It's common for travel agents to insist that you have insurance before you travel. Some will even withold your travel tickets until you prove that you are insured.

Travel insurance There are various types of travel insurance, though the most common policies will cover the majority of your needs. Just watch out for features such as:

Cancellation insurance If you fall ill and are unable to attend your holiday, cancellation insurance may allow you to reclaim what you paid for the holiday.

Accident cover Accident cover should cover you for any accidents whilst you're away, offering peace of mind just incase anything should go wrong. Take heed though, if your accident happens when you're drunk - the policy will probably be invalid!

Lost baggage Lost baggage cover does pretty much what it says on the tin - although check the insurance policy details carefully to see exactly what's covered!
